It’s that time again. I’m off to Washington DC to enjoy some hedonistic, sensual, highly erotic adventures. Wish me luck because this time I’m hosting my own event for the first time ever. I’m sure hoping that it goes well!
I’ll be back closer to the end of February.
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!! XOXOXOXOXO
While I’ve never actually watched this show before I thought I would take a moment to do so considering their provacative guest. I was certainly gratified to see that this program was interviewing a leader in the adult entertainment field. I also thought that it was VERY interesting that the show somehow thought it appropriate for his “lead” interviewer to be the self-professed Christian on the panel. In true ridiculously childish style her first question had to do with how his current girlfriend’s mother was treating him. Stellar journalism. The questions didn’t get any better from there apart from Whoopi Goldberg who actually asked a semi-intelligent question about who runs the industry. His answer was “The women make all the decisions” He went on to say; “They’re totally in control”. That was nice to hear. He also said [with regard to testing for STDs] that “These are adults and adults can make adult decisions.” Hear, Hear. In addition, he expressed that it IS a career choice to which one of the stellar co-hosts suggested that wasn’t true simply because she’d never been to a career fair that offered that as an option – at which point the audience applauded. Really? Folks, lift up your heads and see that MANY woman are making conscious choices to be Adult Actresses and Adult Erotic Service Providers. For many of us it is a choice and we’re excited and happy that we made it. For others, that is not the case and I know many Adult Erotic Service Providers and organizations who work tirelessly to see that situation changed. Take a moment to find out the truth and then make your decision. I am convinced that if the women (who call themselves feminists – a fitting oxymoron) who so sanctimoniously shut down Craigslist’s Erotic Services section had simply stopped to find out the truth, they would never have shut it down. They would have realized that doing so would be putting so many Providers at serious risk – an unfortunate and all too real situation for many. A dark day for true feminists.
To the cast and crew of “The View”: Please take a moment to educate yourself on subjects you obviously know nothing about except for your own narrow-minded beliefs and “views”.
Last night I was privileged to attend the closing night performance of the world premier of “Machine: A Fire Opera’ at The Crucible in Oakland. It was a magical evening. The librettist and Director Mark Streshinsky has created a fine work. The set design was top-notch – as always. The event was simply marvelous. It incorporated not just a brand new work by incredible talent but it also captivated us through the use of fire elements as well as highlighting the different types of art and creativity that occur at The Crucible. The affair was catered by Grace Street Catering who did an extraordinary job on the appetizers and desserts. The wine was provided by Footloose. They offered a lovely Chardonnay and Syrah. Very tasty. But really, the star of the night, in my opinion, was the opera. It was so uniquely staged. The workers in the machine were the percussionists. The orchestra – comprised of traditional symphonic instruments as well as electric guitars – was actually on the stage – an integral part of the production. The cast was unbelievably spot on, singing perfectly with a score that had to be very, very challenging. They didn’t just rise to the occasion. They transcended it. Beautifully.
I had the opportunity to wear one of my latex dresses – one that I don’t enjoy very often at a non-kink/vanilla event. My hair dresser did a wonderful job on my up-do – something that I rarely do – and I was very, very pleased with the results. My gown was designed and created for me by The Baroness. She’s designed and made most of my latex – well, in all honesty, she’s made all of my favorite pieces. It was so much fun to spend all day getting ready. I felt like a princess.
If you have the opportunity to attend an event at The Crucible I would suggest that you take the opportunity. In fact, it remains my goal to raise $50K for the organization. And the good news is that my friend M has already donated $100 toward my goal and E, a lovely gentleman who teaches plasma light creations at The Crucible has promised to donate $500 once I’m at $49,500 of my goal. How wonderful is that? If you have a desire to work with me to plan an event to help me reach that goal please contact me here or at mistresskalliope(at)gmail.com.

I am a HUGE fan of Cesar Milan. I love that his shows focus on training people and rehabilitating dogs. When I was a young girl I was attacked by 3 dogs. Each time it was completely unprovoked and I have harbored a huge fear of dogs for most of my life. That is until I started watching “The Dog Whisperer”. After watching many, many episodes I have conquered my fear of canines. It used to be that I would not even go for a walk if it meant that I was going to be in a neighborhood where there might be dogs. If I was walking in that type of situation I would actually walk in the street – NEVER on the sidewalk. If a dog barked my heart would race and I would literally run away – even if I was walking with someone else. Well, except my dad who told me that if we were ever walking together and a dog came to attack me he would snap its neck. To this day I will walk anywhere with my dad. :-) Also, I wouldn’t walk between cars in a parking lot for fear of a dog that would bark at me as I passed by. And I am not without reason for my feelings. In addition to the other attacks when I was a young girl, E and I were on a walk together about 12 years ago. We’d gone to Berkelely to hike around the hills. We both had large walking sticks that we’d made. They are about 6′ long and were never meant to be a weapon but on that day it turned out to be quite necessary. As E and I were traversing an especially sacred labyrinth together I heard a dog bark. It was quite a ways from us so I wasn’t too worried. That is until I watched it run down the face of a cliff – about 24′ from the ground at at an angle just shy of 90 degrees – directly at me. E kept the dog (it was a pitbull) at bay with his walking stick and I was able to extract myself from the situation. After watching many, many episodes of TDW I’ve discovered the calm, assertive part of myself. It’s been very empowering. I now ride my bike virtually without fear. I have walked by barking dogs and I’ve even been able to, after acknowledging the pack leader, pet a few of them as I passed. It’s been liberating and I feel a wonderful sense of freedom now that I can ride my bike and walk down the sidewalk without (too much) fear. What continues to astound me is that all these years I believed it was the fault of the dog. Now I understand that the responsiblity lies directly at the feet of the pack leader. If you have a dog, please know that you MUST be the calm, assertive pack leader for your pet. They will be much better dogs and much better companions if you are.
I was just watching another episode and I had to write down what Cesar said, “We’re the only species who listen to unstable pack leaders.” Sage wisdom.
Last week I went to Santa Cruz to visit Natural Bridges – a state park and refuge to thousands of monarch butterflies. I was excited but a bit dubious. Would I really see the butterflies grouped in hundreds? Would I be treated to what the ranger called a “flurry” of butterflies? Would they be within my line of sight? I was cursing myself for having forgotten my binoculars. But then, after a short walk down a lovely wooden pathway there they were.
Glorious, splendid, whimsical and free. Hundreds of them flying in the air all around me, perched in the beautiful eucalyptus trees. At the bottom of the trail was a downed tree limb – just large enough for one to lie back and take in the wonder. And I did! I must have stayed for an hour or more, lying on the branch or looking up at this beautiful sight.
As with any natural wonder, lots of folks had stopped by for a peek. They’d brought their children (one person actually brought a dog but was asked to leave the dog outside the park. It is an insect refuge after all.) so the noise level would ebb and flow. I noticed that when it was the quietest was when one could begin to expect a flurry. I watched and watched and tried to imagine which cluster might decide to take flight. Every time a flurry would occur it was unexpected and breathtaking. One second the butterflies were perched and the next they were in flight all around me. It was truly a sight I won’t soon forget. Monarchs have a very limited diet. They exist only on milkweed. Please consider planting some in your yards or terraces.

I believe that Annie Sprinkle says it best so I’m posting an excerpt from the open letter she wrote below. If you’d like to link to it go here.
“Green River Killer,” Gary Ridgeway said, “I picked prostitutes as victims because they were easy to pick up without being noticed. I knew they would not be reported missing right away and might never be reported missing. … I thought I could kill as many of them as I wanted without getting caught.” He confessed to having murdered ninety women. Sadly some Seattle prostitutes, their boyfriends or pimps, knew the Green River Killer was Gary Ridgeway for years, but were afraid to come forward for fear of getting arrested, or the police didn’t believe those that did come forward, or the police didn’t seem to care. Ridgeway’s killing spree went on for over twenty years.
Violent crimes against sex workers go underreported, unaddressed and unpunished. There really are people who don’t care when prostitutes are victims of hate crimes, beaten, raped, and murdered. No matter what you think about sex workers and the politics surrounding them, sex workers are a part of our neighborhoods, communities and families.
When Ridgeway was finally caught, I felt a need to memorialize my whore sisters that had died so horribly and needlessly. I cared, and I knew other people cared too. So I got together with Robyn Few, Founder of the Sex Worker Outreach Project, and SWOP members Stacey Swimme and Michael Fowley, and we claimed Dec. 17th as the International Day to End violence Against Sex Workers. We invited people to do memorials, vigils, and their chosen kind of events in their countries and cities. We produced a vigil at San Francisco’s City Hall. To date hundreds of people around the world have done dozens of memorials, actions, and events of all kinds, and the participation is growing. Won’t you join us?
Each year when I attend a gathering on Dec. 17 for International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers it is always a deeply moving experience. I take some moments to feel grateful that I worked as a prostitute for twenty years and came out alive and well. I remember those who didn’t survive and I fear for those who won’t until some real changes are made.
In whore pride solidarity,
Annie M. Sprinkle
Below area few ways you might choose to participate:
- Organize a vigil/memorial/gathering in your town. Simply choose a place and time. Invite people to bring their stories, writings, thoughts, related news items, poems, lists of victims, performances, and memories. Take turns sharing.
- Organize or attend a candlelight vigil in a public place.
- Do something at home alone which has personal meaning, such as a memorial bath, or light a candle.
- Call a friend and discuss the topic.
- Send a donation to a group that helps sex workers stay safer. Some teach self-defense or host web sites that caution workers about bad Johns. Donate to Sex Worker Outreach Project.
- Spread the word about the Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers and the issues it raises; blog, email, send a press release, forward this text to others.
- Attend the Dec. 17th Day to End Violence event listed above. Everyone is welcome.
- Organize a panel discussion about violence towards sex workers. Procure a community space and invite speakers like sex workers, police, and families of victims.
- Create your own way to participate. People have done celebrations, Christmas caroling, protests at jails, lobbying at City Halls, naked women reading whore writings, performance art, visual art projects, and other creative, fun and moving things.
Recently, I went to a Second Base Party hosted by Club Exotica. It was a wonderfully polyamorous event focused on pleasure and decadence. Christopher Ryan co-author of the book Sex at Dawn gave a rousing talk on his new book which, I’m told, is a NY Times #1 best seller. I highly recommend it. It’s a wonderful book that dares to question the standard narrative. Give it a look see…

Renowned authors and teachers are visiting the San Francisco and Los Angeles area this week.

Pleasure as Spiritual Practice
Friday, October 21st, 7pm to 10pm
Center for Sex and Culture
1349 Mission Street (between 9th adn 10th), San Francisco

Most spiritual traditions – both Eastern and Western – take a dim view of pleasure; however, in Tantra pleasure can be used as a tool for spiritual growth. Consciousness is the key to transforming mundane pleasure into something more profound. In this workshop, Mark and Patricia will explore both the theory and practice of bringing consciousness to pleasurable experience and help you begin exploring your pleasure more fully and intentionally.
Ananda Nidra: Tantric Meditation for the Modern World
Saturday, October 22nd, 3:30pm to 5:30pm
Bodhi Tree Bookstore
8585 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood
$20
This two-hour workshop will introduce you to some core principles of Tantric meditation and several different meditative approaches involving the senses. According to the Vijnanabhairava Tantra, a classic Tantric text, the state that lies on the border between sleep and wakefulness is a profoundly mystical one. We will show you how to reach this state by rotating your consciousness through the body, followed by a series of pleasurable sense memories. It is said that 45-minutes of this meditation is equivalent to more than three hours of sleep. You will emerge relaxed, refreshed, and energized.
Mark A. Michaels and Patricia Johnson
are the Co-authors of The Essence of Tantric Sexuality and Tantra for Erotic Empowerment.
Their new CD “Ananda Nidra: Blissful Sleep”employs Tantric principles as well.
